The Ballad of Real Estates II (2016)
HD video with sound, 51' 50"

After visiting ghost towns and squatting communities in Spain and creating the first Ballad of Real Estates, we roamed around in the Free Economic Zone in Incheon, Korea, one of the most notable project financing areas in the country and created the second Ballad of Real Estates. In the new archives of cartograph and topology, provided by the major Internet portals' map services, dramatically well-preserved are the changes in the roads, streets, and neighborhoods in places where the city's
development attempts fizzled. Among the fragmental sceneries from the portals' "street view" services, which contract space and jump over time, we collected blurred images of passers-by, traces of resistance and conflict, sudden appearance of dead-end walls, and views of debris fields where homes had been demolished, before we visited the actual sites. To put it straightforwardly, we followed a certain trace of money and wandered around in the ruins of money. But we didn't want to see the world only in a flat way, like an uneven stitch of what a 360-degree camera can take. Even the ruins are always inhabited by some people; the small rocks left at the sites of demolition might have tasted so sweet, like the cheep import confections poured into the country as a result of Free Trade Agreements. We imagined stones we pile up, stones we build with, stones we throw, stones we put into our mouth and suck, and stones we sit on to rest and reconsider things.
