장소적 맥락과 공간의 상태로부터 작업의 실마리를 찾아 프로젝트를 진행해 온 파트타임스위트(PTS)는 에르메스 미술상 전시를 위해 처음으로 갤러리 전시를 할 수 밖에 없었다. 즉 한번도 온전히 해보지 못했고 할 이유를 찾지 못했던 공간에서 갑자기 해야만 하는 상황이 온 것이다. PTS는 작품을 최대한 감상하기 위해 재구성되는 전시장의 공간 활용 방식을 이용하는 한편, 전혀 손댈 수 없고 손대서는 안 되는 전시 공간에 아예 다른 공간들을 탄생시킨다. 하지만 그렇게 만들어지는 구조물과 공간은 견고하고 튼튼한 갤러리 내부와는 질적으로 많은 차이를 보인다. 수공예적 방식들로 이루어진 거대한 기둥 [파도]와 [13평 클럽]의 진입로는 육체적 노동의 서로 다른 단면들을 여과 없이 가시화하고, 한편 [13평 클럽]에서 흥을 돋우는 퍼포먼스 비디오 [행진댄스]는 허울 좋은 자율의 이름으로 환영받고 또 속박되는 예술과 젊음을 노동인지 행진인지 운동인지 모를 복잡한 댄스로 곱씹는다. 전체 타이틀인 [포스트-제목없음]은 말 그대로 제목을 붙일 수 없기 때문에 붙여졌다. 하지만 그동안 그토록 많았던 ‘제목없음’과 지금의 ‘제목없음’이 같은 것이지는 않을 것이며, 또 같지 않길 바라는 마음으로 간편하게 포스트를 붙였다. [포스트-제목없음]은 [파도], [13평 클럽], [행진댄스]를 포함하는 하나의 작업이다.

Part-time Suite (PARK Jaeyoung, LEE Miyeon, LEE Byungjae) is a project-based artist group formed based on critical discussions about the socio-economic conditions the members found common among themselves. As a group they have been transforming the harsh conditions of reality and the limitations they face into artistic productions that aggressively reflect and amplify their condition; paradoxically they have discovered possibilities that expand reality in the process. Furthermore, they have consistently raised questions about the internal dynamics of their own collective, learning first-hand the power of autonomy and self-rule in the context of the larger social contradictions and inadequacies; they continue to seek ways of adaptation and betrayal in order to casually overcome the condition of limitations in reality.

In the past, the group has been engaged in projects that deal specifically with the context and condition of the places and spaces they chose to work with. For the 2011 Hermès Foundation Missulsang exhibition, the group has been compelled to exhibit works at a “regular” gallery space for the first time. In other words, a gallery is a space the group has never neither fully worked with nor found any reason to work with before, and now the group found itself having to work with it. Thus, on the one hand, the group chose to reorganize the gallery space to maximize the viewer appreciation; on the other hand, where the group could not and must not reorganize, it created a completely new space. The structures and the spaces thus created within the gallery are a sharp departure from the solid and secure interior of the usual gallery spaces. The enormous column Waves and the entrance corridor to The 42m² Club are built manually, and they nakedly manifest different aspects of physical labor. The performance video March Dance that entertains the viewer inside the The 42m² Club, portrays art and youth, which are both welcomed and cursed in the hollow name of autonomy, through a complex dance, and it is difficult to tell if the dance is meant to be work, a march, or a physical exercise. The exhibition title Post-untitled was given because the artists actually could not give a name to this project. The word ‘untitled’ is preceded by ‘post’ simply to indicate that the ‘untitled’ here is not the same as the ‘untitled’ in many other works of art, and to indicate the artists’ wish that it be different.
