An unoccupied plot of land is a space that still has no use. Officially, it provides no service. Such land, where nothing is being done, causes delays in a city where the rules dictate that everything must prove its own utility. For this reason we just pass by it instead of paying attention. Such land, however, constitutes a secret, sometimes dangerous, space when night falls. It appears at once open and chary. The atmosphere of the plot seems to urge your secrets to be revealed – a state of mind willingly sought by those who enter it. When they cross the invisible border of the plot, a kind of acute sensitivity is generated, also related to the unoccupied state of the plot.

Part-time Suite’s second exhibition, off-off-stage, is held on an unoccupied plot right in the heart of Seoul. The plot is certainly unoccupied. In spite of its small size, it has multiple proprietors and no certain future development plan. It is divided by a wall from another vacant lot which is now a private property. Here, we draw a hanging screen, making the space into a stage that reminds us of other unoccupied plots hidden at various locations in the City. Viewers visiting the stage, isolated from external sounds, will become impromptu performers, sauntering around the plot without a purpose. These performers will cast light on the silent plot, recalling the manner in which a place of no use exists. They will also witness the other vacant lot, over the wall, which remains unoccupied physically but has lost its character through being owned by someone and becoming included in a specific area.

The plot will only become an exhibition space temporarily, at night; during the daytime it will be left as it is, unoccupied.
